Factors to Consider When Buying Fishing Rods and Reels

Fishing can be done either for sport or commercial purposes. With the right tools, fishing can be an enticing task. For any ordinary person, fishing rods are just fishing rods and nothing more. However for a fishing expert, fishing rods and reels have profound differences and it could be nice to buy the best which can serve you well. There are basically many fishing rods available for one to choose from. Before buying a fishing rod, here are a few factors to consider.

Power

The power of a fishing rod or reel is the amount of pressure applied by the angler on the rod to make it bend. Light action rods bend easily has compared to heavier rods. Rod weight can be categorized into very-light, medium, and heavy. Under medium we also have medium light, and medium heavy. Ultra-light rods are used to catch small fish in ponds and other small rivers due to because it cannot withstand much weight. Ultra heavy rods have the power to withstand lots of pressure and hence they can be used in deep-sea fishing to catch big fish. Learn how to build fishing rod here!

Length

The length of the rod will determine the position of the angler. Longer fishing rods have the power to balance the pressure applied on the hook by the fish when it jumps around. Also longer rods take more lines on the hook set, enabling the angler swing around when catching fish. However, it should be noted that the length of the rod should be limited to the ability of the angler to use it. Material of the Rod

Most fishing rods are made of fiber-glass and graphite. Graphite is very light and sensitive than fiber-glass making it the most commonly used. Fiberglass is also used in bait fish that require rods with medium action. It provides a uniform bend throughout the length of the rod making it more effective. Graphite is sensitive and stronger than fiberglass making it the mostly used material. However, it is more expensive.

Reel Seats

Reel seats provide comfort while holding the rod and reel. It allows the fisherman to sense the blank with his finger on the rod.

Action

The action of a rod is basically how easily and how far from the tip the rod will bend when a force is applied. It helps balance the power of the rod for proper and longer casting. Light and slower action is suitable for lighter baits while faster action is suitable for heavier casts, click here to get started!
